Oakton House, 1838 Antebellum Estate in Marietta, Georgia

The current owners have opened this home to tours and to events, such as weddings and bridal showers. The home has been on the market for over 2 years and the owners have been approached by developers that want to add homes on the acres surrounding the house or demolish the home for redevelopment. Below the listing description, I have included a post describing the situation by the current owners, which is on the home's Facebook Page.

Alright, this will be a long post. I appreciate those that take the time to read it through. We have had Oakton on the market for over 2 years. Putting our family home on the market was one of the toughest, but needed decisions I have ever made. I felt the home would sell in 2 months or 2 years. Neither has happened. Our goal is to locate a family (or group) that would keep the integrity of the property as have the 3 families that have previously owned the place. Our experience to date has been pretty miserable. We have been contacted by businesses that wanted to tear the house down and develop or introduce up to 13 homes in the front yard. I always felt I was not allowed the opportunity to live here only to let the it be destroyed. I love this home. We have had the property appraised by an appraiser that specializes in older homes and are asking the appraised cost. If an under contract antebellum home in Roswell sells, we will be well under a revised appraisal. As much as I do not want to, there will be a point that we might have to listen to a developer. The purpose of this post is to reach out to any of you that are interested in our home and what it represents in our town that might know of some type of buyer we are looking for. We have tried several local organizations other than a family that might benefit from such a unique property. I would very much appreciate your letting me know if any person or group might come to mind that might be a good fit.
