It appears that someone in Rhinebeck is flipping ranches. I found a few houses for sale by this realtor that look nearly identical to this renovation (here is one). Same engineered flooring. Same bathroom with stock tiles (we'll give them the benefit o the doubt that it is stock marble on the floor rather than engineered vinyl, cringe), tubs, vanities and fixtures. Same white kitchens with stock cabinets and white subway tile. Same painted wood.
Even though this blog focuses more on much older homes, homes from the 1960's and beyond weren't all shag carpet with orange walls and avocado appliances. And most houses with those items have been remodeled already, like this one had been. I understand updates to some kitchens and bathrooms are needed, but it's so wasteful to rip out an entire, recently updated kitchen just to put in a white kitchen. What happened to all the granite in that kitchen? What happened to the cabinets? And all the painted wood. Ugh, it really bothers me to see wood ceilings painted white.
I try as hard as I can to post homes that are original, mostly original or restored with repect to the history of the home and not to post homes with excessive painted woodwork, but it's getting harder and harder to find unspoiled homes in certain areas (Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC, Denver, Louisville, and all of their immediate suburbs, all of Utah and most of Tennessee and Nevada). I suspect that all of these areas are lousy with flippers. I blame HGTV for making flipping mainstream, for giving people the idea that renovations are needed every few years, that recent renovations are disposable and that white walls, white cabinets and white paint are the answers to all decorating needs. People are destroying beautiful, old houses.
In fairness, this house was already renovated and was by no means original, but that just speaks to the wastefulness of endless renovating. The seller makes updates to a home only to have the next person come in and throw it all away. You will be able to see the changes in the before and after. There are some rooms that were not pictures in the new listing, but there is a virtual tour, if you want to see the rest (link below).
Okay, rant over. But, is anyone else with me on this?
