[The home] was built in 1902 for Ralph P. Tietsort, a furniture baron who was part-owner of the Royal Furniture Co. and later, Phoenix Furniture Co. It was later sold to Norman McClave, the son-in-law of Charles R. Sligh, founder of Sligh Furniture Co.. McClave, who became president of Sligh Furniture, owned the house until the mid-1960s, when it was briefly owned by a church, according to property records in the Grand Rapids Public Library. In 1967, the home was purchased by Glen Reed, a Heritage Hill investor and landlord who owned the property until his death last year. Reed's family is now selling the house.
