Robert Evans House, 1880 Queen Anne Victorian in Hudson, New York
LISTING DETAILS
From Listing Agent:
Built in the 1880's and commissioned by Hudson's historically prominent Cornelius Evans of C. H. Evans Brewing Company [c.1796 thru prohibition] for his son Robert, this Queen Anne style building in the heart of the Hudson Historic District is one of Warren Street's most beautiful, impressive and important buildings. It has a red brick and carved sandstone facade with pleasingly asymmetrical tower, gables, arched windows and heavy soffit corbels. The wonderful interior spaces exhibit traditional and original Aesthetic Movement details. It is located next door to the Second Empire style, Cornelius H. Evans House [c.1870], which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The original brick structure was built in the 1880s by Cornelius Evans for his eldest son, Robert. There were two additions, one brick and one frame of indeterminate date, but believed to be late 1890s to early 1900s. These additions extended all three original floors of the structure. There is a full stone and brick foundation with approximately 7 foot ceiling height. On-site parking will accommodate 8 cars.
First Floor: Seven main rooms with nine to ten foot ceiling height, formal entry foyer, two smaller rooms and two half-baths. Aesthetic Movement detailing includes heavily molded and diverse woodwork, coffered ceilings, parquet floors, wainscoting, four ornate tiled fireplaces, original stained-glass elements, hardware and pressed paper ceilings. Currently the first floor is professional offices.
Second Floor: Seven main rooms, foyer/landing and two full-baths. Two tiled fireplaces. As recently as a decade ago, these rooms were configured as two, 2-bedroom apartments. The space is currently used as extended office space for the first floor business but could easily be returned to residential use.
Third Floor: This level includes two, 1-bedroom apartments. Both kitchens and baths were recently renovated. Each apartment has kitchen, bath, living room and bedroom. There is a beautiful stained-glass skylight above the stairwell. Mechanical systems: Utilities are set-up for six separate units with six hot water gas fired furnaces and six electric and gas meters. City water and sewer.
The subject parcel measures 50' x120'. This offer to sell includes a 16-car parking lot located across Warren Street (at # 411) with ingress and egress from the alleyway. The parking lot measures 46'x120'.
