HISTORY via Blowing Rock News and the previous listing

William Alexander, also known as the developer who built Mayview Manor and effectively created what we no today as the Mayview neighborhood, built Far Horizons in 1924. It was home to Anne Cannon Reynolds Tate Forsyth for 50 years before being passed on to her son Zach Tate. This house has only belonged to 3 different families in over 90 years. It has been taken down to the studs and remodeled twice; first in 1990 and again in 2015. It features spectacular views of Johns River Gorge, Grandfather Mountain, Table Rock, Hawksbill - and on a clear day, glimpses of Charlotte and Mt. Mitchell. After a small furnace fire in 2014, a major renovation was initiated under the supervision of High Country interior designer Dianne Davant. “It’s a new house, but with the charm of an old estate on a grand landscaped lot."

Just in case anyone is wondering what William Alexander's Mayview Manor looked like, I found a few pictures. It was built around the same time as Far Horizon, opened in 1921 and was in operation until 1966. After being abandoned for years, it was demolished in 1978. A sad ending for such a spectacular hotel. Now the only memories of it are pictures and a marker where it used to sit.
