Before and After: 1924 Storybook House in Los Angeles, California
This is a before and after post showing the renovation of this house. For the most part, I think they did an amazing job of keeping the details, or at least the intended feel, of the house. I just wish they hadn't painted the wood. It's one thing that happens in too many renovations and it always breaks my heart to see it done. What do you think?
LISTING DETAILS
The Hanson Residence, 1924, architect Jean-Louis Egasse. Built during
the same period as the Egasse-Braasch House, a renowned originator of this
individualistic, ante-mediaeval inspired architecture. An ultimate
example of whimsical, architectural Storybook at the peak of the 1920's
period. Habhouse proudly unveils complete restoration. All components
and details have been attended to with original recovered materials or
meticulously sourced items. Egasse, "The curves and arches, although not
symmetrical, are all geometrically related, in order to create an
ensemble of harmonious lines suggestive of spiritual truths." Brick
clinker touches, asymmetrical lines, and irregular arches draw one in to
emotional aesthetic. Sweeping city views, with extended deck, provides a
seamless outdoor flow. Mature trees and succulents frame separate guest
cottage and bonus studio. In the heart of Silver Lake but privately
elevated, the structure and restoration define an exceptional lifestyle
and home.
