More info from comments on another house blog, Old House Dreams:

The original owners were the Branin family who owned the property for decades before and after 1900. The father Mark Branin (1811-1900) was a butcher, and his son M. Newton Branin (1869-1934), who owned the property later, ran a small grocery store. They weren’t wealthy, or particularly religious from what I can tell, and had no connection with the Pitcairns or their Swedenborgian church that founded Bryn Athyn and owned most of it.
The listing suggests the building was built as a music hall, but it looks more like some sort of meeting hall to me. My guess, and that’s all it is, is that the younger Branin built it for the Odd Fellows, since he was an active member in that organization. There is some reference to their Eagle Lodge and maybe this was it. Branin had some extra money and donated land for the first firehouse in the village in 1908.
